Annual scholarship created by Lee Veazey and Neal Franklin on behalf of supporters of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra in honor Maestro Savia’s 25th anniversary serving as the Music Director with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra by awarding a scholarship to an outstanding member of the Evansville Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (EPYO). The scholarship is designed to aid musicians pursuing college training in a music field. Maestro Savia is now the Conductor Laureate of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, having retired from the position of Music Director in 2020 after 31 years of service.

Eligibility Criteria

Graduating high school seniors with a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale) who have participated in the EPYO for at least one year prior to applying for this scholarship. Applicants must be planning to pursue a degree in music (performance, education, therapy, etc.) at an accredited college or university.

Selection Criteria

Selection will be based on documented involvement with the EPYO, including number of rehearsals attended and concerts performed, applicant’s number of years of study with his/her instrument or music discipline, quality of applicant’s performances with the EPYO, academic performance, and letters of reference.

Supplemental Requirements

No less than one letter of reference from applicant’s music instructor or other musician.
Documentation showing the applicant’s involvement with the EPYO.
Official grade transcript.
