Annual scholarship created by Elaine Logan, Lori Logan-Craig, and Andy and Lori Foster-Logan in memory of Harry A. Logan. Harry was a retired and lifetime member of the Marrs Township Fire Department. He spent 40 years with the fire department and logged over 4,222 runs. During his time on the fire department, he served as fireman, district chief, assistant chief, and fire chief for 8 Years. He had countless hours in training and public service to the people of Marrs and Robinson townships and the surrounding area. Harry was instrumental in forming the Posey County Fire Chief’s Association and served as the Indiana Volunteer Fireman’s Association District 15 Chairman. He was also a member of the Indiana Department of Homeland Security District 10 Planning Council. In 1982, Harry received the Neighborhood Hero Award from The Evansville Press. Throughout his life, Harry continuously demonstrated his passion for helping others and community service. Harry was credited for treating a neighbor that became suddenly ill. According to the family, Harry was a neighborhood hero who helped, not because he had to, but because he cared about people. Harry received numerous service and community awards. In 1986, Harry was acknowledged by the Veterans of Foreign Wars for dedicated service to life and property. Other honors include the 1988 IVFA District 15 Midwest Award, 1989 Marrs Township First Firefighter of the Year recipient, 1992 GE Leadership through Excellence Award, 1993 GE Excellence through Teamwork Award, 1994 GE Organization and Teamwork Award, 1995 GE OQ Project Leadership Award, 2004 State of Indiana Hoosier Hero Award, and the 2011 Posey County EMA Responder of the Year Award. This scholarship serves to encourage individuals to carry on Harry’s dedication to fire service and community service.

Eligibility Criteria

Graduating seniors in the District 15 area (Posey, Vanderburgh, Warrick, and Gibson counties) with a minimum 2.75 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale) planning to pursue post-secondary education at any accredited college, university, or technical/vocational school majoring in Fire Services or related majors.

Selection Criteria

Selection will be based on all sections of the application form and financial need, with particular consideration of applicant’s history of involvement in community service. Preference will be given to applicants who have been cadets or who belong to a family of multi-generational firefighters.

Supplemental Requirements

Essay (not to exceed two typewritten, double-spaced pages) describing applicant’s desire to pursue a career in service work.
Letter of recommendation from a fire chief, firefighter, or member of the community where applicant has performed community service.
Completion of the FAFSA.
Official grade transcript.
