Annual scholarship created by John and Phyllis Kissel in memory of their son, who died in a 1995 train accident. The award recognizes, rewards and encourages academic perseverance.

Eligibility Criteria

Graduating seniors or graduates of any Gibson County high school planning to attend an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or technical school.

Selection Criteria

Selection will be based on the applicant’s surpassing expectations as indicated by past and current scholastic performance, on financial need, and on success in overcoming cultural, health and domestic obstacles, and on the required essay.

Supplemental Requirements

Essay:  Statement of Perseverance (not to exceed two typewritten double-spaced pages) describing the challenges faced in order to pursue aspirations and educational goals and describing successes at overcoming cultural, health and domestic obstacles.
Documentation of enrollment as a sophomore, junior or senior at a Purdue University campus.
Completion of the FAFSA.
Official grade transcript.
