Annual, renewable scholarship created by Robert and Judith Townsend in memory of R. Dean and Vivian Townsend. It was a lifelong desire of Dean and Vivian to help Gibson County students who could not attend a post-secondary school without financial aid.

Eligibility Criteria

Graduating seniors of any Gibson County high school with a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale) planning to attend an accredited 2- or 4- year, Indiana public college, university, or trade school.

Selection Criteria

Selection will be primarily based on financial need, and secondarily on all other sections of the application form and other supplemental documents..

Supplemental Requirements

Three letters of recommendation – two from high school faculty members and one from a community member who is unrelated to the applicant and who is not a Community Foundation board member.
Completion of the FAFSA.
Official grade transcript.

Renewal Details

May be renewable for up to four years in pursuit of recipient’s degree. Renewal applications may be considered provided the recipient continues to meet his or her college or university’s academic standards. Renewal award amounts may differ from original award. A new recipient for the award will be identified once the prior year’s recipient has completed his or her eligibility for the award. Renewal applications will be assigned to renewal candidates in their online student account.
